Healthy Hollywood: Wellness Wednesday – Kelly Bensimon’s Fit & Fabulous Life Plan!

March 14, 2012

The first thing you notice about Kelly Bensimon when you meet her is how amazing she looks. She is absolutely stunning and has a body to die for! Can you say jealous – a bit?!

At 43, Kelly is fit, fabulous, and a great testament of how healthy living can and should look. The former model and reality star doesn’t smoke or drink – she simply eats healthy 6 days a week. The busy single mother of two also finds time to spin, practice yoga, ride horses and has written a book to share her health secrets in her upcoming book, “I Can Make You Hot!”

Now, add running to Kelly’s workout passions! She’s participating in the New York City Half Marathon this weekend and it’s all for a good cause, which is to raise money for Generosity Water’s Charity Runners Program. “I’m passionate about bringing clean drinking water to areas in need. After going to Haiti last February and seeing the hierarchy of need there, I have since made a concerted effort to do what I can to raise money for clean water. When I saw a young girl dancing with 40 pounds of water on her head, I was humbled and thought to myself, ‘you go to school, and I’ll get you the water.’”

Kelly revealed to Healthy Hollywood she enjoys working out with her two kids and right now is running 4 to 6 miles everyday to train for her upcoming half marathon. She also says it’s important to stretch before a run, adding, “I always stretch my legs, calves, thighs, and I do these reaching exercises to pull my torso out of my lower back. Sometimes I run calmly that it’s like a big stretch and my muscles feel good and worked – not sore. Everyone should see themselves as a thoroughbred, an animal that needs to show off its ability, but not get overworked.”

Kelly’s final piece of running advice, “Run for only 20 to 25 minutes at a time. You really don’t need to run forever. Forty five minutes of running is too hard on a woman’s body, unless you are in training. Exercise is supposed to give you more energy, not take it away.”
