Healthy Hollywood: Fab Food Friday – Lose The Belly Fat Now!

March 9, 2012

Healthy Hollywood is often on the hunt for the latest diet/trend to lose stubborn belly fat. I know lots of women (and men) who say a thicker middle is their biggest trouble zone… Fitness magazines are always headlining ‘foods to burn belly fat’ or ‘exercises to flatten your tummy.’

The sad reality is banishing belly fat is hard – especially if you’re over the 40-mark. “Belly fat is stubborn and difficult to lose,” reveals nutritionist and author of “Belly Fat Breakthrough,” Karlene Karst. Plus, excess belly fat is dangerous to our health and could increase a person’s risk of heart disease or stroke.

Karlene stopped by Access Hollywood Live and revealed some tips to whittle down your middle. “Incorporating nutrition principles such as fiber, protein and healthy fats each time you eat. Eating up to 5 to 6 times per day every 2 to 3 hours, which helps keep your blood sugar stable and metabolism revved.”

Also, Karlene is a big a fan of SafSlim, one of the few supplements that actually zones in on belly fat. “Recent research shows that a unique form of high linoleic safflower oil found in SafSlim can reduce belly fat by 9%. It does so by increasing an important belly fat hormone known as adiponectin, which naturally decreases as we age. Two tablespoons of SafSlim per day delivers the same amount of linoleic acid used in clinical trials.” Omega-3s are another important nutrient in the battle of the bulge. Aim for 1000mg of omega-3 fatty acids per day.

Also important in the war on belly fat is start off the day with a healthy breakfast. Protein is essential. Karlene suggests making a protein smoothie. Mix 2 scoops of vanilla whey protein powder, 1 cup of unsweetened rice milk, 1.2 cup of strawberries, 1 tsp. of organic flaxseed, and ice if desired. Blend and enjoy!
