We love a good supernatural romance as much as the next guy, but let's face it, all the forbidden love affairs between a human person and a non-human something-or-other are starting to blend together. We've got humans and vampires, humans and werewolves, humans and tigers, humans and an intelligent mushroom named "Boris"...okay, maybe that last one isn't real. (At least, not until someone decides to publish our YA novel called "Fungi Are The Fun Guys." C'mon! It's trendy!!!) But just when the interspecies romance fatigue started to reach epic levels, Variety came through with the good news that teen-lit favorite "Hourglass"—featuring a romance between (gasp!) two regular human beings—has been optioned by Fox 2000. Okay, so maybe they're not completely regular; the Myra McEntire-penned book is about a girl named Emerson Cole who discovers, thanks to the intervening wisdom of a sexy older dude, that the "ghosts" she's been seeing for the past few years are actually the shadows of real, living people from the past. And then there's time-travel. And also, kissing. But still! Humans! Falling in love! Fortunately, we've learned our lesson when it comes to the paradox of time-traveling romance—namely, thinking about it too much makes our brain short-circuit (OP: insert joke now). So rather than debating the complicated mechanics of quantum-leaping love, we'll keep our speculation strictly in the realm of the Right Now: Who should be cast in this movie? Our pal Sabrina over at TheFABlife has already thrown in for Shailene Woodley, who definitely has the impressive range needed to play the role of Emerson. Do you buy her as one half of a time-traveling couple? Discuss! how about any skinny white girl? source
Another day, another young adult series snatched up by the Hollywood moviemaking machine. This time it's the novel The Scorpio Races, a fantasy novel by Maggie Stiefvater that's been out all of a week. According to THR, Warner Bros. has reined in the film rights for the hot-off-the-presses book, with KatzSmith Productions set to, well, produce. The Scorpio Races centers around a mysterious annual competition where competitors ride water horses (or "kelpies"), flesh-eating beasts from Celtic mythology. It's a dangerous race, with some riders dying before the finish line, and never before in its history has there been a female rider...until Puck Connolly comes along. In addition to bucking tradition and trying not to be bucked off her steed, the young girl begins to fall for the reigning champion of the race, a stoic trainer named Sean Kendrick. It's got all the bullet-points required to hit the Harry Potter/Twilight sweet spot: young protagonists, supernatural elements, and the requisite unlikely romance. No wonder WB wanted it. Stiefvater is no stranger to Hollywood. Her book Shiver is also headed for the big screen, courtesy of screenwriter Nick Pustay. Part of a best-selling trilogy, Shiver is a tale of young love between a girl and a werewolf. And without a single sparkly vampire around to screw things up for them! Ah, amore... If we have to keep getting teen fantasy movies - and given the box office returns, it looks like we will - it's good to see something like Scorpio Races getting picked up, something that deals with a more obscure sliver of mythology than tiresome vamps and werewolves. But seriously, though, when are we getting a tale of great love between a teen and the Creature from the Black Lagoon? Where's the love for the Gill Men, damn it? source 3 days til nano ppl............
the soundtrack to this post tbh this is on repeat right now
