Healthy Hollywood: Try It On Tuesday – Gwyneth’s Hangover Helper!

April 3, 2012

First off, Healthy Hollywood is not advocating drinking to excess – but we all know it happens! Gwyneth Paltrow has a remedy to help you prepare for the morning after. Yup! A go-to-hangover cure tried and tested by Ms. Paltrow – herself!

Gwyneth, who has her own wellness site GOOP, has the inside scoop on the best treatments for just about any ailment or concern. As far as preventing hangovers, the actress is a big fan of MERCY, which is an all-natural prevention drink. “You can drink it alone or mix it with alcohol to create a hangover-preventing cocktail. I also drink one if I’m feeling tired to give my system a boost,” writes Gwyneth on GOOP. For full disclosure’s sake, the actress even invested in the company after discovering MERCY.

Other celebrity fans include, Jay-Z, basketball sensation Jeremy Lin, and Emma Roberts. Touted as a ‘miracle in a can’ by those who imbibe too much - every once in a while. MERCY reportedly works by eliminating toxins, like acetaldehyde (alcohol’s unhealthy by-product), and restoring key nutrients. “Science and medicine has proven that intervention is the key – you simply cannot wait until the next day for any effective form of detoxification after a night of drinking. While everyone has their supposed hangover cure, most members of the medical community understand that it is urban legend. The reality is that once a hangover sets in, the after effects are there to stay for several hours, if not days,” reveals Dr. Steven Lamm, an internist in New York City.

To counter the effects of a night out, it is suggested to drink one full can of MERCY for every three to five cocktails. It can be mixed with alcohol or had on its own.

MERCY mixologist, Alex Ott, shared with Healthy Hollywood, one of his own special cocktail recipes:

Angel of MERCY

Ingredients:

1 oz of SVEDKA Cherry

2 oz of cranberry juice

3 pinches of ground ginger

1/2 oz fresh lemon juice

2 oz MERCY

Combine all ingredients, except MERCY, in a cocktail shaker filled with ice and shake vigorously. Strain the mixture over an ice-filled highball glass until its 2/3 full. Float with MERCY. Garnish with a fresh cherry or lemon wheel.
