Healthy Hollywood: Get Movin’ Monday – Sloane Stephens Steps Up Her Game!

April 2, 2012

Sloane Stephens is set to take the tennis world by storm. At 18, Sloane kicked off the year as the youngest female player in the Women’s Tennis Association Top 100. And, she’s expected to be a serious contender on the tournament circuit.

“In my first pro matches, I was just so honored to be called to this level and once I started winning, I knew I was following the right path and in the right place,” Sloane reveals to Healthy Hollywood.

Healthy Hollywood caught up with the tennis sensation in New York City where she helped BENGAY celebrate the launch of their latest product, Zero Degrees. “It’s not a typical product you would think of when it comes to a younger athlete, but I’m here to change that,” declares Sloane. “Post-games I usually take a 10-minute ice bath (not my favorite), but since I understand the benefit of cold when it comes to pain relief, I grin and bear it.”

With tennis season heating up, Sloane doesn’t have much downtime and admits it’s hard to squeeze in workouts outside of tennis. “The days I am off, I make sure to stay hydrated and healthy in preparation for the next location, including running, getting in practice sets on the court and even getting ab work in while at the hotel. In the off-season (November and December), I do two hours of tennis in the morning (mostly hitting), then an additional two hours in the afternoon, and then fitness for an hour and half on a daily basis.”

Sloane, who is in amazing shape, credits running with helping to build her endurance on the tennis court. Plus, she says it’s important to always workout her core, adding, “Working your core is also great to maintain stability and strength. My routine includes 30 sit-ups, 30 obliques (each side), followed by a one-minute plank – repeat twice.”
