Healthy Hollywood: Get Movin' Monday – Be A Fit Mom-To-Be Like Kourtney Kardashian!

December 5, 2011

Ready for another Kardashian to walk the planet? Reality mom Kourtney Kardashian just announced she's expecting baby number two with her baby daddy, Scott Disick.

She's not the only star mom back on the baby track – Maggie Gyllenhaal and her husband, Peter Sarsgaard, are also expecting another child. Congrats!

It seems to be the season to be preggers in celebrityville! Beyonce, Jessica Simpson & Hilary Duff are all expecting their first child. Being pregnant during the holidays has to be tough – even for the rich and famous. After all, you've got the extra stress of shopping, endless festivities, eating frenzies – not to mention the added pregnancy pounds!

So, both famous moms and us mere mortal moms need to remember the importance of "me" time and to try and de-stress with a workout. "Exercise can help combat stress, keep the blood flowing, help prevent too much weight gain and ward off depression," reveals Pilates trainer, Kristin McGee, who works with celebrity moms Tina Fey and Bethenny Frankel.

Kristin is a big fan of low impact cardio, prenatal yoga, and lightweight weights for expectant women. "Anything that helps build a mom's confidence and strengthen her muscles is excellent. I also love the meditative aspects of yoga, the stretching and the deep breathing, which can help with contractions," adds Kristin.

Plus, exercising is a great tool to help new moms bounce back faster to their pre-pregnancy weight. "If you burn off 250 calories through exercise and eat 250 calories less each day, that's a 500 calorie deficit and a one pound drop per week. Add that to calories burned while breast feeding and moms can shed the weight easily," states Kristin.

Thanks to FITiST, a recently launched online wellness site, moms who live either in LA or New York City have access to the best of the best boutique fitness studios – such as top-rated specialty classes like cycling, Pilates, and yoga. It's awesome for moms who want to avoid the traditional gyms. Plus, FITiST helps busy women keep track of their workouts, devise a personal fitness plan – and can simply be your one-stop destination.
