Healthy Hollywood: Wellness Wednesday – Fashion's Night Out 101

September 7, 2011

Get ready to dust off your credit cards – open up your wallets - and shop until you drop. Fashion's Night Out is Thursday and women everywhere will celebrate their favorite "four letter word" (shop) with after hour access to their favorite stores.

Style-related events are happening in cities nationwide. In New York, there are a number of celebrity appearances, such as Natasha Bedingfield at Ann Taylor, Kate Walsh at Sephora, and Hayden Panettiere at Stuart Weitzman. Yet, before you slip on your most fashionable outfit and hit the town – Healthy Hollywood has a little advice on surviving the shopping gridlock with your sanity and hairstyle intact.

"It has become one of the busiest nights in New York, so it's pretty hard getting around town," states celebrity hairstylist Ric Pipino of New York's Pipino 57. So, to help NY's fashion elite and us regular gals get in a stress-free state of mind, Ric is throwing a Fashion's Night Out prep party from 10 AM to 8 PM on September 8. His salon, Pipino 57, is offering a 20% discount on all their hair styling services, blowouts, manicures, spray tanning, mini facials and more.

It's a not a bad idea to take a moment and de-compress before you head out the door and start to navigate Fashion's Night Out. Your sanity will thank you!

While a little "me" time helps you begin the night in the right state of mind, Ric also says a hairstyle with staying power is a must. After all, who wants to bother with their hair once they've set out on their fashion adventure?

Ric suggests adding texture into your hair by using a non-greasy hair product, like "Lift Me" by Revolution In Cut. "Then it is always good to give your hair some curl with either a curling iron or heated rollers," reveals Ric, who also adds, "This step makes it easier for your hair to last the entire day and evening. Start with clean hair pulled back into a sexy French twist and then as the evening moves on, you can take your hair down for a mid-evening party. Finally, pull your hair back into a tight bun for any late night events."

Also, if you have room in your purse, take along a small can of hair spray, hairpins, and a hair tie to pull your hair back – just in case any hair emergencies happen to arise – you will be prepared!
